New scheme opens in Bradford

A new housing scheme in Bradford city centre was officially opened on Tuesday, 18 April. Clergy House and Jermyn Court provide 18 self-contained flats for people who are homeless. They offer individuals and families temporary accommodation of up to three months while we help them to find longer-term and more suitable housing. Clergy House was a historic building in the city centre, owned by Bradford Cathedral, which had become derelict. Bradford Council spent £3.3 million renovating the property and creating new accommodation on land they owned close by, which has now become Jermyn Court. Horton Housing will manage the two schemes on behalf of Bradford Council. Phone 01274 739926 CASTRS is a drop-in service available for our clients to access information, advice and support. The service runs every Monday from 10am to 2pm at Horton's Training Centre. The drop-ins help clients with signposting, benefit claims, PIP, ESA and JSA sanctions and appeals. The service provides advocacy on the behalf of clients and staff are on-hand to support clients with calls to external agencies and with collecting of proof of ID. Computers are available for clients to fill out online applications and search for jobs and training courses. Run in partnership with Bevan Healthcare, the scheme provides short-term, temporary accommodation for people who need support with health and housing after leaving hospital. It helps to reduce ‘bed blocking’ in local hospitals. A ‘Pathway’ team is based in hospitals to identify clients who may benefit from the care offered by BRICSS.
